Four Major Symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis can happen to any age but more often seen among young adults. This seasonal disorder is typically triggered by pollen spread in spring and symptoms include sneezing, running, stuffy and itchy nose, conjunctival congestion, itchy eyes and in some severe cases, laryngeal edema.
Running nose
When spring comes, the most common symptom of acute allergic rhinitis is a running nose that put patient in an awkward situation especially at work. As symptom develops, there might be pyogenic discharge due to secondary infection. As a result, patient can’t live without tissue for the whole season.
Sneezing / itchy nose
Itchy nose and uncontrollable sneezing are also commonly seen symptoms of allergic rhinitis, especially in the morning and evening. Sometimes the patient develops itching around the nose, soft palate, face, external auditory canal and eyes.
Stuffy nose
Stuffiness range from unilateral to bilateral and intermittently to continuously. In severe cases, patients even have problem fall asleep, resulting in a low spirit during the day.
Dysosmia
Allergic rhinitis also induces temporary dysosmia if caused by the stuffy nose and mucosal edema. However, it could be a chronic condition as well if persistent edema induces olfactory nerve atrophy.
